Cruising to Turks & Caicos

Spending Thanksgiving aboard Princess Cruises’ Caribbean Princess made for an unforgettable adventure. With birthdays and anniversaries to celebrate, my mom’s side of the family joined us, making the trip even more special. It was the first time we had all come together for a vacation like this, exploring a brand-new destination together. Not only was it our first-ever cruise, but it was also our first time visiting Turks & Caicos. The whole experience was awesome—waking up to ocean views, exploring new places, and just hanging out on the ship. After this trip, I can definitely say I’d love to cruise again.

Life on Deck

Stepping onto Deck 15, the main hub of the ship, we got our first real glimpse of life on board. With pools, food spots, and stairways that led to the upper sun decks, this was the place to relax and soak in the cruise experience. Even though we hadn’t left port yet, people had already settled into their vacation mode—some sunbathing, others grabbing a bite to eat, reading, or even playing mini golf on the top deck. It was clear that no matter what kind of trip you wanted, the Caribbean Princess had a spot for you.

Golden Hour on the Horizon

By the second day on the ship, sunsets had become my daily ritual. Each evening, I found myself drawn to the horizon, watching the sky shift into vibrant colors. The calmness of the ocean, paired with the warm glow of the sunset, created a surreal peace. It felt like time slowed down, allowing me to soak in the quiet beauty of the world around me.

Caribbean Bliss: Grand Turk Shores

After a few days on the water, we arrived in Grand Turk, the heart of the Turks & Caicos. Known for its vibrant history and being the only cruise port in the Turks & Caicos, we kicked off the day with a bus tour of the island. We explored street shops and the iconic lighthouse, were shown local marine life, and learned a lot about the island’s rich history, both economic and cultural. The tour wrapped up with some well-deserved beach time, where the warm blue waters and soft white sand made it feel like paradise. The true highlight, however, was spotting the donkeys roaming freely across the island, a living reminder of Grand Turk’s historical ties to salt mining labor.

Anchored in Paradise

After a day of exploring Grand Turk, we were ready to unwind aboard the Caribbean Princess. The massive ship, majestically docked at the cruise port, was a sight to behold as we strolled along the dock toward it. The contrast of the towering ship against the vibrant Caribbean waters and the bright blue sky made for an unforgettable view. Before the cruise, I had always been amazed by the sheer size of these ships, whether in movies or in big cities like Seattle. Now, standing right in front of it, I couldn’t help but be in awe of its intricate design and the countless rooms that layered the upper half of the ship, forming a structure only a cruise could embody.

The Final Horizon: Sailing Back Home

With most of our journey behind us, we were on the final stretch toward home and I found myself in one of my new favorite spots on the ship. At the stern, the seating areas were basked in the golden sun, and another pool added to the relaxing atmosphere. It wasn’t just the amenities that caught my eye—it was the symmetry of the view. From the pool in the center to the seating on either side to the beautifully curved railings framing the space, everything lined up perfectly. Beyond the structure of it all, though, was the true beauty—the endless expanse of striking blue waters, visible from every angle. It was the perfect way to reflect on an unforgettable journey.

The Turks & Caicos cruise was more than just a journey—it was a story captured through the lens of each moment, from the tranquil beauty of Grand Turk’s shores to the awe-inspiring sunsets at sea. Each day brought something new to discover, whether it was the history of the islands, the warm breeze against the ocean’s calm, or the peaceful solitude of a sunset over the Caribbean waters. As I reflected on the experience, I realized that it wasn’t just the landscapes and the ship’s grandeur that made this trip unforgettable, but the emotions they evoked—the serenity, the adventure, and the sense of freedom that only a journey at sea can provide.
